If there’s one thing Canadians know, it’s how to beat the heat. Which is why we’re ready to book a trip to the first ice hotel in North America.
Located 5 km north of Quebec City, the hotel is a dream of ice and snow—literally. It takes about a month and a half to build and is made out of 15,000 tons of snow and 500,000 tons of ice, with walls that are up to four feet thick.
And while the design varies from season to season, typical amenities include a nightclub, movie theater, indoor heated washrooms and outdoor hot tubs. All the furniture is made of ice as well. And they even have a chapel for wedding ceremonies.
But you’ll have to wait a bit. The hotel won’t re-open until January next year—and only for a few short months.

Go-Go Music.
Listen up. Used to be, Bluetooth speakers were pale and sad imitations of the real thing. But the audiophiles among us at TheLUXURIAN were pleasantly surprised by the oomph the new $300 Bluetooth micro-speakers from Jawbone puts out.
It’s the big brother to the original Jambox with an overall footprint at 10 x 3.1 x 3.6 inches. It's naturally packed on some heft as well, weighing 2.7 pounds in contrast to its .75-pound sibling. Still, the unit remains fairly portable and, just like its predecessor, the Big Jambox features the Yves Behar design that makes it look as good as it sounds.
Even better, the Big Jambox can be paired with a whopping eight gizmos at once via Bluetooth—and stay simultaneously synced with two at a time.
As for the sound? It’s extraordinarily powerful for its size, and puts the bass reproduction of many comparable speakers to shame. (That said, the high-end response does distort a little when maxed out. But that’s typical of most speakers in this price range.)
All in all, it’s one of the best Bluetooth speakers on the market. And we think it’d fit well in some lucky bestie’s stocking this month!

By now you’ve probably already heard about the Nest Thermostat—the little gadget from some Apple alums that turned the world of thermostat design upside down.
Well, the second-generation Nest thermometer is here and while it looks essentially the same, there are some nice design tweaks that make it that much cooler to have around including a hidden motion detector and a thinner, all-steel chassis. But it’s the software tweaks that really make a difference.
The thermostat is now compatible with more types of heating and cooling setups — 95 percent of low-voltage ones, the company says. And it plays well with Android, iPads and iPhones.
We never thought we’d call a thermostat luxurious but we’re willing to make an exception for this little wonder.
